Chiropractic Myth of the Month: Chiropractors Don’t Believe in Drugs or Surgery

A prevailing myth that seemingly follows chiropractors wherever they go is the one about how we apparently don’t believe in drugs or surgery. Perhaps you’ve heard this a time or two through the grapevine. Or better yet, maybe you got that impression from hearing us preach our natural approach to healthcare — you know … all that stuff about focusing on your body’s natural ability to heal, etc.

Yes! We 100% believe God created your body with an incredible capacity to heal and thrive given the right circumstances and proper function. If you are open to it, chiropractic can play a huge role in that mission.

But are we 100% against drugs or surgery? The quick answer is no — we aren’t against them.

Quick Thoughts on Drugs and Surgery

We aren’t going to sugarcoat the fact that drugs and surgery often mask what’s really going on with your body. Sure, they can limit and even completely relieve pain so you can go about your day and do what you love. But at the end of the day, prescribed or over-the-counter medications and elective/recommended surgery generally don’t fix the root problem.

They are merely a small Band-Aid for a much bigger problem.

In many cases, drugs and even surgery can make a smaller issue significantly worse. So, yes, we believe strongly in natural and alternative healing through neurologically-based chiropractic care and other lifestyle modifications.

HOWEVER, not everyone’s health journey fits into the same pretty little box. Sometimes, chiropractic only provides minimal benefits. Occasionally, chiropractic may not be the answer for your unique health issues. In these situations, we are trained to make proper referrals to other healthcare practitioners when drugs and surgery are needed or should at least be explored as options.

As Doctors of Chiropractic, we have trusting relationships with medical doctors, orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, podiatrists, and more. Having these relationships ensures we are always keeping our practice members’ best interests front and center.

Doctors often refer their patients to chiropractors as a healthy alternative to drugs and surgery.

Other times, we will refer someone in the opposite direction if we feel it’s the best course of action.

Why Chiropractic Care Works

Have you felt stuck in a cycle of managing your symptoms with various drugs or surgery? Does it seem like you never get to the root of your issues? We’ve met plenty of people who have felt this way for years. They are frustrated with their health outcomes and are looking for a different approach — and in many cases, chiropractic care is the answer.

We concentrate on function rather than focus on symptoms such as neck pain, back pain, etc. As people achieve symptomatic relief by elevating their function, they’ll feel better today, tomorrow, next week, next month, and so on! Working with an experienced chiropractor in Lewisville is a way to change a person’s health trajectory — many times without having to rely on drugs or resort to surgery.

We know that your health matters to you, and it also matters to us. While you may think drugs or surgery may be the answer to your problems, it doesn’t always have to be. Our goal is to provide you and your family with the best chiropractic care available so that you can enjoy better health benefits for longer.

We hope you feel welcome, loved, and like family when you step into our office.
